If image is an issue, how about a Marshall VBA and a couple of 4x12s. Or a big f***-off Orange valve stack.

One assumes roadies are part of the deal.

But were you given a choice in the matter?

Nope - they wanted a Precision for both the sound and the look. I'd have been perfectly happy to play the gig on a Wal, and my fretless would have sounded great, but it's not hard to see how it would have looked wrong.

I did get a choice when it came to which hat I wore ...

Hmmm, doesn't happen to be Andy Powell's Wishbone Ash, does it?

I was beginning to think that!

BTW Martin Turner did get a bright crunchy sound out of his T-bird. Try digging out some old pix of their backline and see if you can get what he was using?

Perhaps, although two bands is enough for me at once tbh :)

I don't think it's a case of being proud of it. If they said we'd like a sound more like "x" to work with the band and possibly something that looks a little more like "x", "y" or "z" then I would be much more inclined as they are involving me in the decision making process for the instrument I have to play. I just don't like the idea of "play this or else". Honestly though I play music for fun and stress relief, not on a professional basis so feel free to disregard it based on that.

I simply would not be seen dead on stage with a jeans and t shirt and a sunburst bass.

....I can see I am going to have to get a SVT valve head and a coffin....

Looks like the right choice to me.

Sounds like there are roadies involved. Get flight cases....

One of those wiggly hula doll toys stood on top of the rig will add to the full-on rock & roll flavour:

From his own mouth - with a pick, always neck pickup only, bridge PUP dialled down to zero. Looks like the piano player got special dispensation to play one of those modern-looking things though!
