bassbloke
I recently took possession of a Fender HM Bass. This is a rather unusual beast in that it has 3 jazz pickups and a 5 way switch P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P Now, it would be really nice if I could find a way of adding the following P P P P P P Does anyone know if such a switch actually exists? The Burpster
Hans..... Jeez isnt 5 enough..... You coudl do this with a Fender stacked pot/3 way switch...... I've just tried to find onne but cant so it may be a bit of a project .... The 3 poles of the switch could be 1. thru to 5 way selector (or bypass) 2. all 3 3. P-p-P I have one of these switched pots on my CS P..... do you want to look for one? Let me know if you struggle.... As for 7 way switches I am yet to see one but that doesnt mean it isnt out there..... I'll ask my guitarist tonite.... Bob.... PS you still pleased wit it? Paul_C
You could add a simple on/off switch to put the neck pickup on - then when the other switch has the bridge, or bridge and middle on, it'll give you either bridge and neck or all three on (I did it to a Strat a few years ago)
bassbloke
The bass is great. I swapped strings between my backup deluxe jazz, so it's now got a nice set of Warwick EMPs and sounds great. Paul_C your suggestion is perfect, with one minor modification. I'm going to use the push/pull switch to control the pickup nearest the bridge as that's the one in the non-standard location. Bring it in will add a really nice edge to the sound without the need for extra electronics or piezos.
Kev
that 3 jazz pickup combination would sound dynamite

I realised that that I was actually losing one option I currently have which is pickup nearest bridge soloed, but it so bright, I would never use it. The two bridge pickup combination is wonderful and I reckon all three would strip paint.
I remember you saying you'd replaced the switch. Did you line the control cavity btw? Nice work!!! No, the switch is decidedly iffy - the main board is quite loose and the contact keeps breaking. It's not a problem - they're not expensive and I have the option of re-wiring it with a 3 way and push pull pot - loads of flexibility and not a battery in sight. The Burpster
Hans... yes I did the cavity, it was painted but I dont like that paint I just dont trust it..! I'm sorry about the switch- I'm a bit pi55ed off now, that its not right...... Mind you thinking about it, the 5 way I put in my guitarists Strat was from the same supplier and thats not been quite right either..... Just goes to show stuff in a Fender pkt isnt always top kit!
