Matt_UK Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 (edited) Hey guys, thinking about purchasing this fine looking bass, but theres a crack on the lower side of the neck pocket. What do you think - anything to worry about? [attachment=98294:Cracked.jpg] Cheers, Matt Edited January 27, 2012 by Matt_UK Quote
Machines Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 Hard to tell from the pic - but it looks like just a crack in the lacquer which is only a cosmetic issue. Can't be sure - but it's not a typical place for a wood crack to form. p.s. watch out for moderators - they might tell you off for posting it in 2 places Quote
Matt_UK Posted January 27, 2012 Author Posted January 27, 2012 (edited) Cheers for the quick reply - I'm not too sure what to make of it. Seller took it to a shop where a guy said that it is just the part of the guitar where a lot of strain is focussed - dunno if that's a worry for any future wood movement though? (And I will apologise profusely if moderators come a-knocking - my fault for typing before thinking!) Edited January 27, 2012 by Matt_UK Quote
waynepunkdude Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 A good tech could pin it for under £40. Quote

Ancient Mariner Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 That kind of crack is common where the neck screws have been overtightened - the wood deforms slightly and the lacquer cracks. At least one of my strats has a very similar crack. Quote
