Lozz196
If you`re confident enough, take off the strings, and remove the bridge. See if the earthing wire underneath is connecting. If it`s not, then try a bit of a clean-up on it, and the underside of the bridge. Put it all back on, may have sorted it. If the earthing wire is connecting, then look about for someone to give it a proper once-over. But is this endemic to Jags anyway? I know can be with Jazzes, with both pickups on. Batfastard
The best thing to do is get some copper shielding tape and cover the back of the scratch plate and all the interior cavities. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Electric-Guitar-Adhesive-Copper-Shielding-Tape-Kit_W0QQitemZ360199272452QQcmdZViewItem?rvr_id=235301979801&clk_rvr_id=235313402483&imp_rvr_id=235313402483&clk_rvr_id=235313402483&cguid=2d72c4951300a47a4451f0c1ffc13179 This is what I used. I also put a stip of tape over the bridge earth wire so it has a better connection to the bridge.
jdt
very helpful thank you, the noise stop when you touch the strings, and when the treble pick up is off,.
Marvin
I thought I had an earthing problem with my Rockbass. Was at a rehearsal in a rather 'strange' rehearsal area (that's another story though) and it buzzed continually especially with more treble added. The buzz slightly diminished when I rolled off the treble or touched the strings. Got it home and used it the other night at another rehearsal space, nothing. Odd, very odd. KiOgon
Do you or a mate have a multimeter? Like Lozz said above - but you can do some checks without taking anything apart - check the bridge is connected to ground. I'd happily have a look at it for you, but it's a long way between us. gjones
Dimmer switches and other sources of Electromagnetic interference can cause nasty buzzing with jazzes with single coil pickups. Making sure the pickups are earthed as mentioned above and shielding with copper tape or screening paint helps.
