I watch this clip almost every other day- the guy is grooving like a monster.

It seems this Chicago church have some great musos playing there.
I think this is the ending of a piece called Joy to the World? There is another clip somewhere with another guy playing the same song and he interprets it differently.
This is like a cross between Bootsy playing Sex Machine and Anthony Jackson.
Awesome groove!

Even *my* bitter, cynical little heart was warmed by that.

Haha, gorgeous stuff!

Thats what its all about for me right there. He's completely nailing that song and still sticking in some fly phrases.

Estelle's bassist could take a few notes.

I like his groove... rather funky, i gotta love a bit of funk! Plus those drum solos are really good, not like most at metal concerts where it just sounds like they set a gorilla loose with a couple of toms!

Ahh thats Sharay Reed!

American Gospel Bass Players are by far the most influential and talented guys around, and for me will always make me dive for my bass as opposed to most solo players, great choice Richard!

More bassist's from the same gig:

Not only the way a groove should be played - but just full of joy and energy - when you hit the funk like that with a great drummer - nothing else matters... end of. This - as they say - is the sh!t. The big smiles everyone is wearing says it all.

Love it.

damn right, that last phrase he plays is awesome, and he breaks out in a big grin part way through as if he knows he's nailed the hard bit and the finish is easy

I saw him with Jill Scott and really wasn't impressed with playing or sound...but he's definately better in those vids.

Fat Bak Taffy!!!

Yeah if it is the 826+ album it's 2001.

The Tribetts generally run ting! His brother Eric is a monster drummer.

Also, I suppose this link may be of interest to people looking at this thread: www.gospelbasslines.com

Yep, it is the 826+ album.

I think Erik Tribbett is actually his cousin. I've tried looking them both up on the net, but it's never very clear.

I got into them after seeing "Getting In The Way" on Jools Holland. Erik is indeed a monster!

If you like Nu-Soul/Hip Hop kind of stuff, the Jools Holland Best of Later Soul/Hip Hop is a great buy. I got my copy about 3 years ago and it's rarely off the DVD player.

There's about 22 tracks, people like Mary J Blige, Aleysha Keys, The Roots, Angie Stone and D'Angelo.

Some really tasty groove players on there, that probably all came out of the gospel scene.
