Gareth Hughes Posted January 28, 2012 Posted January 28, 2012 Folks - love this thread for two reasons: 1) I'm a disco slut and 2) it's nice reading about what you were all doing in 1977. Me - I was being born For a colossal resource of 70's bass lines, check out this site: http://reader.feedshow.com/show_items-feed=e692d6bdc2073422f5d4e1c91698a356 You will like. Quote

Kiwi Posted January 29, 2012 Posted January 29, 2012
but i never really heard an Abba track that really grooves. of course what i say means nothing as groove is subjective
Y'got two of the best examples right there. Rutgar Gunnarsson is an incredible groove merchant but don't take my word for it. He also has a connection with brass like many bass players (John Entwhistle, Herbie Flowers) having scored all of Abba's brass parts. Quote
Oh, I dunno. If you listen closely to the bass and drums on 'Dancing Queen' ...killer. I ridiculed it at the time, like all us stupid kids who didn't know any better because we were listening to Yes and ELP (!) It is in fact a very fine example of the craft of pop production and has stood the test of time. Quote
