Alec 'Aleb' Mills
In 2010 I bought an ashdown 'electric blue 180' which pre-dates 2004. I thought it was a steal at £60, very good condition. While it is giggable and it is a tank of a combo, is it worth adding a 1x15/2x10 cab to it to get the full 300 watts? Or to get some newer dcent gear? Cheers. Musky
AFAIK the Ashdown runs at 8 ohms with the internal speaker, so adding an 8 ohm extension speak will drop the impedance to 4 ohms giving you the full output of 180W. If you've seen 300W quoted anywhere they're talking about peak wattage, which doesn't mean much outside of a marketing department. Whether it's worth it or not depends on how much extra volume you need (or would like ). Personally I think I'd upgrade the combo, which would give you much more flexibility if you start playing bigger venues/venues without PA support. Adrenochrome
In my opinion - yes. A lot more speaker area is probably the most relevant thing, and you can get a cheap cab for next to nowt 2nd hand. Of course it depends on your circumstances and what you need the rig for. chris_b
I'd get a decent extension cab, then at some time in the future you'll be ready to upgrade the combo to a good amp.
