Agreed, I am a firm believer in the old adage "The smaller the kit, the better the drummer"

Not suggesting that a drummer with a huge kit can't be good mind. But you have to be good to "work" a small kit.
I couldn't possibly use the same adage about us bass players of course....;-)

I emailed him and he replied. Nice guy. He said he thinks they are rounds on that video. He uses half rounds now. The set he has on his bass at the moment has been on there for over a year now.

Ah that explains it then . That's pretty much the sound i'm trying to get from mine but it's just too bright at the moment (and cutting the treble muffles the mids too much).
