well i went to andertons today, and a mixed bag of a day really, i didnt like the ampeg pf500 and 1x15 cab, i tried the ashdown abm500 1x15 combo and it's sooo much louder (well to me anyway), another band member came with me, and he was instantly impressed to by the difference, it would add sooo much depth and low end to the music we play at the moment

BUT then my application for finance was declined? :( so a bit gutted, but i know what to go for :)

I agree with your choice of Ashdown. I recommend you go for a head and cab as it allows you freedom to chop and change a bit. Buy secondhand if you can though as you'll usually get back what you paid.

luckily, i put a deposit down on the amp, the abm500 combo was only £350 as it's second hand, and it comes with a cover, so i just need to sort out some funds basically

the ashdown just sounded right the first time i played the top string, the low end grunt was incredible

I ran an ABM500 (the chrome rackmount one) and an Ashdown 8x10 for years with no reliability issues whatsoever. I still own it now, it lives in our rehearsal room. So have fun and enjoy! One thing, not sure what sort of tone you're after but i found that when i added an Ashdown Hyperdrive pedal to the set-up it really brought the amp to life and gave it some grit. Just a thought! :)

so i played with the amp for the first time at rehearsal tonight, and it's biblically loud (in my book anyway) without turning it up to 1/4 way round :D

i love it, it has the right sound we're after, and after playing around with the EQ and sub-harmonics the bottom end is awesome and what i was after

so all in all an amazing purchase and i'm very happy

I`ve got an Ampeg PF500, and it`s a really great amp. It definatley provides that full, rich Ampeg sound. Rather than go through my opinions, here is my full review of it:

Love my PF-500. They will be releasing a 4x10 PF cab soon as well
