essexbasscat
HI all I have a bass with a chip in the poly on the neck. On clear poly I usually just paint in some clear laquer to seal the finish against moisture. With care, I can usually make a fairly good repair that doesn't stand out. However, this bass is a classic vibe Precision, which has a yellowed poly finish. I'd like to match it somehow, but how ? Any ideas BC ? Thanks T

nugget
Any ideas folks ?
Mylands suggest for Polyurethane Stains - Non Fade Ground stains, Light Fast and Water stains Stains can be added to the poly and brushed in, test on a scrap piece of maple to get shade right. Or have a look at http://www.rustoleum.com/CBGProduct.asp?pid=56 But there is no flexibility in getting colour match. I'd go with water bases dye such as mylands or liberons Dave
lettsguitars
Plenty of colour matching techniques at stewmac. More than likely mostly for nitro though.
essexbasscat
A thousand thanks for the replies Nugget and Lettsguitars. I'll chase up those suggestions. The rustoleum link appears to be to an American / Canadian site ?
lettsguitars
Just get some yellow and amber laquer pigment and experiment.
