Which jazz bass neck?

I was thinking of building a jazz bass and wondered: to start with the fretted neck which would be the best buy? American, Mexican, Japan, squire, after market?
I know it's not to everyone's taste but I love the distressed/Jaco look (but fretted)
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Depends on your budget. I would look into American or Mexican roadworn necks. Thats just me though.

There are a few on US ebay.

Hey thanks again Deano, I did think about the stingray neck fs on BC and build a stingray but I don't know if I'd save much money by the time I finished?

I've had good results with Mighty Mite necks, they're much better than their price would suggest, plus if you're going to have a go at relicing it yourself, it's less money if you make a balls of it

So did I, until I bought one. £99 off ebay and the guy selling them tints them as well. Excellent quality.

Makes me think I was a bit of an idiot buying a neck from a Mex Classic 60s Jazz Bass for £300 (including p&p and taxes) when I could have bought one of these instead.

My bitsa Jazz has a Might Mite neck and it's one of the silkiest necks I've played.

Are the rosewood ones he sells tinted too? One of those is just what I'm after.

On a similar note does anyone knoe if it's possible to buy an after market three piece jazz/P neck from anywhere? Or at least one with Carbon fibre rods?

+1 for the mighty Mite neck - I prefer mine to my MIM neck - its not quite as thin and I have big hands!

I'm pretty sure Warmoth do necks with graphite rods in...

Like this one? This ebay seller takes basses to bits and sells the parts. I'll swop my Fender Classic 60s Jazz neck for your Geddy Lee one? I loved my old Geddy's neck.
