apa Posted February 8, 2012 Posted February 8, 2012 Specifically a Squire VM. Is this advisable? Im sure the neck will be ok its more a case of the string spacing and a suitable bridge. Does anyone know of one or heard of it or done it? I can imagine a standard P or Ray with a wider neck being ok but the narrow J?? cheers A Quote
Fat Rich Posted February 8, 2012 Posted February 8, 2012 (edited) My old P bass neck survived being a 5 string for 20 years, not sure I'd do it with a Jazz neck. If you look closely you'll see the B string hanging over the edge of the fingerboard the further up the neck you go, not ideal. I think you'll find the spacing too tight on a Jazz, and finding a bridge narrow enough will be difficult. Maybe use monorails: http://www.thomann.d...bass_bridge.htm Edit: It's back to being a 4 string now Edited February 8, 2012 by Fat Rich Quote
apa Posted February 8, 2012 Author Posted February 8, 2012 I have my doubts to hence the question Good idea on the individual bridges though A Quote
bubinga5 Posted February 8, 2012 Posted February 8, 2012 unless you want a project, it seems like a huge hassle.. first off, im not sure how the tension of 5 strings would affect a four string jazz neck.. the spacing would be very very tight by the nut... replacing the nut... changing the bridge.... also changing the 4 string pickups... drilling for another tuner... i really cant see it being worth while.... or working...
