the workmanship speaks for itself, but why?

The challenge? The joy of creation? The joy of the art?

I thought it looked well enough from the small picture. I mean, this forum has seen some real tat... and I'm not sure I'd put this in that camp. It's more an eccentricity.

If that's a 50 year old Les Paul, that's a rotten thing to do to it IMHO. S'orrible now.

...I'd forgotten about that part, if it is then he needs be hit over the head with a sock full of sh*t

As a Devonian it's not often I agree with a Cornishman ;) but on this I agree 100%.

If it is a 50 year old Les Paul than he's just ruined the instrument. A sock full of sh*t would be too good for him.

What they fail to mention is that it might have been worth £20,000 if it had been restored properly :o

Is the way I see it too but each to their own, their guitar, their money and their loss. I think a new LP would have been just fine for that exercise.

[sup]Two points...[/sup]

[sup]1- its not a player, the gold plating on the frets would last about 5 seconds.[/sup]
[sup]2- 50 yrs old...? The deluxe wasnt introduced until 1968...!![/sup]
[sup]other than that... im at a loss to see why you would make a piece of art from another piece of art, but hey, each to their own.[/sup]

if it gave the guy pleasure, then as it's his he can do as he likes with it.

Spot on brother.

Why why why would anyone do that?? Yes i agree it's his money, his guitar, his choice but surely if you put it side by side with a beautiful unmolested 60's Les Paul, at some point you're gonna look at them and think "Oh bo****ks, what have i done??"

Top money for a '70s LP Deluxe would surely be no more than £3k, mint… and the article says this one arrived 'covered with plastic triangles'.

Personally, I think all Deluxes should be turned into tasteless, useless wall-hangers. Top work, sir.

If you want true works of art in guitar form, then you'd be better off looking at the work of luthiers likeUlrich Teuffel, Simon Farmer and Claudio Pagelli to name but three, rather than someone who's simply taken a Les Paul and "blinged it up".

To be fair Kim did it on instruction of the owner. He who pays the piper......... Its exellent advertising for him though. Not in the least to my tastes.

I don't mind it. From what the guy says, it had been wrecked by someone who had tried to do it by sticking plastic triangles to it and wanted it done properly...

It sounds like a previous owner had tried to make it look like a Zemaitis...

Never been done before?

And how much is that Zemaitis worth, I wonder, if it's for sale?

Probably around $50,000.

Edit: One for $40,000 here... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Zemaitis-Dual-Tone-Pearl-Front-Original-UK-guitar-1995-Stunning-Original-Guitar-/200709401434?pt=Guitar&hash=item2ebb366b5a

Ed Zachary........

because the guitar was made from scratch by master luthier Tony Zemaitis and not someone who took a an old guitar to a superb craftsman for an "upgrade".

Why didn't the client buy an original Zemaitis, Greco Zemaitis or Alden Zalike instead?

Each to his own, I suppose...............
