M-N-Y
One of my faves featuring the amazing Mark Egan from 1985. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_W-m7UuNP8o
kjb
Diamonds on the soles of her shoes by Paul Simon, featuring the amazing Baghiti Khumalo on bass. I'm currently learning it for an LPW at college on the first Monday back after the half term.

Maybe in 5-10 years or so.
M-N-Y
You're welcome Gareth, enjoy playing the fretless. Apologies for posting the Marcus clip I'll read the thread properly in future. Good luck with True Geminis if you decide to have a go. GarethFlatlands
Something to aim for I guess! I hate how Marcus makes it look so easy.
nick
Don't know much about him, but I will & should do ..... I love Alphonso Johnson's playing here with Bobby & the Midnites. Quite inspiring for me. Edited February 12, 2012 by nick
Johngh
Have a listen to Mo Foster's solo albums, they are superb with some killer fretless work on them.
Stag
And on the complete other end of the spectrum, if you like your fretless heavy (yes, really) try Leprosy or Human by Death. Amazing playing from DiGiorgio on those two albums. Not often you hear a fretless bass in death metal but it certainly works for those albums. Krysbass
Brand X? I thought the guy who started this thread was just getting to grips with a fretless??!! Percy Jones.....!!
It isn't all difficult though - check out "April" on the "Product" album - that's some really melodic playing and it isn't blindingly fast either. And since Brand X is well off the radar with most people, don't be surprised if you hear "I like that - what is it?" or similar when you randomly happen to drop it in at an idle moment during a band rehearsal . mentalextra
I've recently picked up a fretless bass and am loving the sound. Anyone got any fretless lines they enjoy playing that I can use to get a handle on the instrument? So far I've been playing:- Pink Floyd - Hey You Bush/Gabriel - Don't Give Up Gary Numan/Alan Patridge - Music for Chameleons But am looking for others.
I have a defretted Yamaha that Im playing around with at the moment too I thought I'd like to add another from Mr Karn who play a great line on Bill Nelson's track Glow World from the album Chimera. I am not an expert, but I have found that when playing Mr Karns lines, your fingers are doing some strange things that they are not used to? Maybe its just me Also, how do you "rip" up the fretboard without leaving the string ringing a little bit. Im struggling with that!
