Oh yeah I like that very much.

Couple more ideas. Not really alternatives to drums just variations which might make things more portable and space efficient

Just saw this today and thought it was worth posting as an example of cajon & cymbals in a heavier musical context.

Love the idea of a bass, percussion and vocal band.

Anyone thought of a Djembe? The amount of different tones you can get out of one of those played well is really ace!!

Our drummer uses one when we do acoustic sets. He finds it quite tough on his hands, though.

Of course, there's always the ukelele....

Hmm, been thinking about this for a while now. Looking forward to getting back to the UK in Sept so I can try it out. Inspired by this thread as well as bands like DFA 1979, Clatter, Lightning Bolt and Royal Blood.

At the moment I'm thinking a vocalist (possibly some room for shakers or a tamborine), bass and a cajon player.

Does anyone know any bands using a similar setup in a rock setting?

Any thoughts on whether it would work? Things to consider?

An example of what can be done with a single traditional double-skinned drum:

When I double on percussion I use a djembe. Probably the most, or at least one of the most versitile hand drums. While playing I also use a foot powered tambourine, wrist bells, shaker, and rainstick in various combinations.
