Quick Question for Fender '62 RI Stack Knob Owners

Recommended Posts

I recently bought a new RI '62 stacker body for a project I'm working on.

The twin tone controls are heavily ratcheted - is this normal?

Obviously they weren't like this on an original Stacker.

Yes, but you can either lift the knobs up on the shaft (oo-err, missus) or you can take the punched plate off and flatten the detents out a wee bit. I'd try the former, first.

Oops. OHM got in there first.

Actually, I wouldn't remove the washer, cos then you could inadvertently alter the tone control by fiddling with the volume control. That was why the detented plate was developed.

Hi, I had the same problem. I removed the washer - which was easy peasy. There was no alteration to the tone whatsoever. If I got another stack knob I wouldn't hesitate in removing the washer.

The first thing I did when I bought my USA reissue '62 stack knob Jazz was remove those stupid washers!

Here's what Thr pesky items look like once you take them off

I've never had any problem with accidentally changing the tone controls when adjusting the vol knobs, so I can see no need for the ratchet washers being in place
