JamieBenzies
Hi everyone, My Yamaha TRB fretless is in pretty poor shape and I need to find a honest and skilled Luthier to sort out some issues and get the bass in shape again. I'm living in central London at the moment so there is quite a range of people to choose from (as I saw in the pinned thread), but I would like your direct recommendations as obviously different luthiers have different specialities and talents. The truss rod seems to be acting up and furthermore the allen key socket just broke after some reckless attempts to sort the neck out, so this is the most important issue to attend to. Aside from that I would like a general going over, tidying and cleaning up electronics as well as a possible fingerboard varnishing. Whether I get all this done is largely dependent on the cost so a reasonably priced Luthier would be fantastic. I eagerly await your recommendations! samkeen
The guys at the Gallery dressed the Devon's neck really nicely. Not sure how they measure up price wise, but the quality's great.
JamieBenzies
Yeah they're the first guys that come to mind, but I worry that they may also be the most expensive, plus they seem quite busy and I would like to find someone who has time to take real care. But we will see. Still can't wait to see your bass man...
Hobbayne
I always get Stuart at Peter Cooks in Hanwell to look after all my guitars. Nice friendly, honest chap.

alisterf
Good thread, am in need of someone to set-up my old Japanese bass. Any other suggestions are welcome, I'm in North London - thanks all!
JamieBenzies
Thanks for the suggestions so far. I'm gonna get in touch with Black Guitars, as they are nearby, and hope for the best. Any other suggestions would still be great.
JamieBenzies
Okay scrap that, black guitars have some high prices. I think I've been spoilt by the value of Roger Dawson's work on my upright...
chris_b
Charlie Chandler in Hamton Wick is a top man. He's the first choice for the likes of Dave Gilmore, Prince (when he's over here) etc. You do pay for that though!
tracktionmonkey
New to this malarkey! And so starting out again with a Harley Benton HB-60 bass. I'll be looking for new strings and a very economic initial setup, if possible. I wondered who people might recommend for such work, in Greater London. Or a little bit outside if it saves me bucks and gets me out of the house! Many thanks.

tracktionmonkey
Hank's Guitars. Now that's a classic shop, regardless of name. Great to walk up those stairs!
