Valhalalf
Morning I'm trying to find a nice 6 string jazz bass with jazz string spacing (18-19mm) that doesn't involve selling a kidney to have a custom job. I have found two models that fit the bill. A KSD V70J6 - http://www.adirondac.../70_6string.htm And a Bassmods K6 - http://www.bassmods....2-4-11_p_8.html After doing a bit of reading I've heard mix reviews over the build quality of the Bassmods model which is a shame as it looks like a beast. The KSD I would anticipate to be built very well for the money due to the Ken Smith name. However I can only find these models in the states and I'm a little aprehensive of forking out that kind of dollar without trying them first, especially if it'll cost $100 to send them back if I don't like them. Does anybody have a contact or any idea where I might be able to get the KSD model imported to the UK. I've looked through the dealers list and there's no UK dealer at present. Or can anybody suggest an alternative? Cheers Edited February 14, 2012 by Valhalalf
EBS_freak
I don't know what sort of budget you are looking at but I would throw the Clover Apeiron Classic 6 into the mix... - I reckon street price circa £1300. (Not necessarily in this finish though!) Edited February 14, 2012 by EBS_freak
Valhalalf
Oooh now thats nice, and with a classic headstock to boot, not a fan of the headstocks on the other two basses. I was really looking at £800 max so this is bit expensive for me sadly but definitely worth a look, cheers EBS Freak

Valhalalf
I don't know why Fender don't make a standard 6 string Jazz

Was a little expenisive though!

velvetkevorkian
I've seen a few people on TB get the Squier Active Jazz Deluxe (I think) 5 string, change the bridge and add an extra tuner. The neck is wide enough that it works, if you're OK with narrow spacing. edit: whoops, you want 18-19mm spacing, which I doubt that will provide. Never mind! JakeBrownBass
Not entirely sure you will find one in the UK for that price, but LowEnd make some great 6 string jazz basses.
eude
Jon Shuker's basic Jazz 4 strings start about £850, so he might do a 6 string for a couple/few hundred more, if you ask very very nicely. Bar that, I don't think you'll get anything in your price range except the ones you mentioned already, unless something wild comes up secondhand. Classically styled 6 string Jazzes with 18-19mm spacing are fairly rare beasts I'm afraid, usually only represented by higher end custom jobbies... Valhalalf
Thanks for all the feedback guys, really appreciated. I think I'll keep an eye on our fellow american bass classifieds and see if any turn up secondhand. Had a look today and just missed out on a bass mods K6 for $
