Kiwi Posted April 7, 2008 Posted April 7, 2008 Just heard this one in the car as I went food shopping: I can't remember ever hearing a simpler bass line (the number of notes, not the variety). Can anyone post a youtube clip of an even simpler arrangement? Quote
SJA Posted April 7, 2008 Posted April 7, 2008 I'll raise you Daft Punk's Da Funk- just G quarter notes throughout. IIRC Siouxsie & the Banshees' Peek a boo has just one bass note sliding down coming in sparsely in the whole song. Quote
Kiwi Posted April 7, 2008 Author Posted April 7, 2008
just G quarter notes throughout.
Montego Bay still has fewer notes. Peek a boo is a real contender though! Quote
geilerbass Posted April 7, 2008 Posted April 7, 2008 (edited) Midlife Crisis by Faith No More? Pretty much 8th note open E all the way. And then there's Private Communications by Dire Straits - pretty much the same thing. Edited April 7, 2008 by geilerbass Quote

bassninja Posted April 7, 2008 Posted April 7, 2008 I always dug "Once in a lifetime" by Tina Weymouth from Talking Heads (Speaking in Tongues & Stop Making Sense albums) Only 2 notes, but what a great 2 notes... Quote

I had been wondering why mine didn't work... thanks for that Quote
The Burpster Posted April 7, 2008 Posted April 7, 2008 Oh yeah baby I can better that....... 2 notes--- One whole lotta Mojo ! ALL TIME CLASSIC...... Quote
Kiwi Posted April 7, 2008 Author Posted April 7, 2008 Good stuff, don't forget we're talking the actual smallest total number of notes played though the song, not the variety. So 1 note per bar counts more than 4 notes I still think Montego Bay is up there, but Peekaboo seems to have the lead at the moment. Quote
dub_junkie Posted April 7, 2008 Posted April 7, 2008 "spy in the cab" by Bauhaus the single note on the bass sounds like a tuned drum http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lUfUTV1JqU4 Quote

A slide at 2:16, followed by E, D, C, B (well, maybe... I wasn't paying THAT much attention) Quote

foal30 Posted April 8, 2008 Posted April 8, 2008 how about Tim Drummond's line on James Brown's "I can't stand myself when you touch me". might be four notes but by Gum it's a sparse line. Quote
