MarkMcK Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 What do you guys think of the 4003 Walnutburst? http://www.guitarguitar.co.uk/bass_guitars_detail.asp?stock=11111713011358 Quote
spongebob Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 It looks quite like the Montezuma brown from a few years back....still very nice though. I think it's limited to 25 worldwide according to Guitar Guitar. Ruby is coming in the Summer....2 new colours in 6 months....what's happening in the water at Ric HQ??? Quote
The Walloper Posted February 17, 2012 Posted February 17, 2012 Stunning bass. I'd have one in a minute. Although they have seriously went up in value the past few years. I have a 2004 limited edition 4003 and it cost me £1200. Now they are £1700+? Quote
Godber Posted February 17, 2012 Posted February 17, 2012
Is this a new colour?
Limited special order for Guitar Guitar - 25 only. The new (standard) colour is Ruby, although we probably won't see one until May. Quote
ead Posted February 17, 2012 Posted February 17, 2012 Sorry, I'm strictly a Jetglo kinda guy. However in that style of finish I could tollerate it along with the Maple. Quote
charic Posted February 17, 2012 Posted February 17, 2012 The actual name for the colour should be "beforethesmokingbanglo" Quote
clarkpegasus4001 Posted February 17, 2012 Posted February 17, 2012 The colour reminds me of Autumnglo. It's not my fave colour by any means but it's still a Ricky! and i've seen far worse. Quote
funky8884 Posted February 17, 2012 Posted February 17, 2012 Interesting, but I love my Midnight Blue. Anyone played a Rick 4003 FL ? Quote
It's aweful, I have been onto this for quite some time . . Marcus Miller 5 string going from £1,200 to £2,200 during the same time period. Lovely basses, just don't think I could justify the price. Ruby sounds nice, will look forward to that release Quote
q_of_doom Posted February 20, 2012 Posted February 20, 2012 (edited) Oh yum! I'd be on it like a fat boy on a cupcake! It looks like crème brûlée! Edited February 20, 2012 by q_of_doom Quote
Icunningham Posted February 20, 2012 Posted February 20, 2012 (edited) I think it looks fantastic. Doesn't quite compare to the mapleglo one in my opinion Edited February 20, 2012 by Icunningham Quote
q_of_doom Posted February 20, 2012 Posted February 20, 2012 I'm all for Autumnglo myself. The more I look at it, the more it looks like a hobo's teeth. The colour that is. Suddenly I can't stand the sight of crème brûlée anymore. Quote
One Drop Posted February 20, 2012 Posted February 20, 2012 I have an old Autumnglo, the inside of the burst is much darker than it appears here, and is matte. The old Ric Walnut (at least in the '70s) was the same if not identical to Autumnglo, but was glossy. I'm not crazy about this version, but it looks more like '60s burst somehow. Quote
jonsmith Posted February 20, 2012 Posted February 20, 2012 (edited) I remember the old Walnut finish being darker in the middle. [s]Last year, Rickenbacker said they had made some 'specials' for the opening of a new Guitar Guitar store. I can't believe it's taken this long for them to come through, but I didn't see anything else appear that fitted the bill, so maybe these are the specials that were mentioned. Apparently the wood was specially selected for grain too, so maybe this is the reason for the paler finish in the middle (although I can't see much sign of grain in the photo).[/s] No, these are something else - wonder what the specials last year were... Godber Posted February 20, 2012 Posted February 20, 2012 The "specials" last year were a selection of guitars for the opening of Guitar Guitar in Epsom (I think). It was a load of very high priced top end guitars - the 381 and 325 re-issues etc. Nothing different as such, but selected especially for the store opening by the company. The Japanese RIC distributors requested specials too for their anniversary last year - the got some very nice white with CB 4003s. Quote
dmz Posted February 20, 2012 Posted February 20, 2012 I love this colour - and the Montezuma brown. If got hold of one of these I'd pimp it with a gold pickguard and trussrod cover - oh, and throw in a toaster too............nice ! Quote
jonsmith Posted February 20, 2012 Posted February 20, 2012 Yep. I wish a few of those had made it to the UK! Quote
geofio Posted January 20, 2013 Posted January 20, 2013 I now own one of these and i must say it looks awesome in the flesh very classy looking and this particular one sounds awesome. Quote
