Lemon oil probably won't go into the wood that much, if at all AFAIK. That said, mineral oil in small amounts may help lift off any crud. All open wood needs to be conditioned and moisture content kept stable. A good oil helps do this. The lemon is there as a cleaning agent, the oil conditions the wood.
