Finger Infection

My plucking middle finger is swollen and infected, and I have a gig in York tomorrow. Might have to do a Jamerson and try to use just the first finger.

Saying that, I heard that Stevie Wonder once shut a limo door on Nate's fingers just before a gig and he managed to play.

It's one of those bloody whitlow things. I get them fairly often but they usually clear up quickly.

See what you can manage with your RH ring finger instead? Surprisingly I once found it worked ok using 1 and 3! Definitely easier than one finger for passing notes

I agree with lawrence. When i had a massive blister on my middle finger, my ring subbed in and was fine, cept it was unused, so it ended up with a blister too.

1) A process involving a jar of Vaseline and a small capon.
2) Playing bass using one plucking finger only (usually index finger) a la Motown bassist James Jamerson.

Thanks I quite often play with my thumb because of joint problems.

I do know who James Jamerson is, I just didn't know he had a special technique!

I used to get them all the time - a combination of nail biting and working in retail - Constantly getting notes in and out of the till aggravates them no end!
My tip would be to have a little bottle of tea tree oil about the place, one with the little wand thing attached to the lid. Squeeze out the nastiness from your finger then dab the oil on and the pain goes very quickly.

Also, take a pick incase the Jamerson hook sends your hand into spasm halfway through the set.
