Grim13 Posted February 19, 2012 Posted February 19, 2012 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NORMAN-WATT-ROYS-1962-PRE-CBS-FENDER-JAZZ-BASS-THE-BLOCKHEAD-SHORELINE-GOLD-/180819389316?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item2a19aceb84#ht_1114wt_689 I saw Norm with Wilko last year and I'm sure he was playing this. Anyone know what he's moving on to? Quote
ezbass Posted February 19, 2012 Posted February 19, 2012 I think he may be playing his Bass Collection sig Jazz. Basically a copy of this one. Quote
Rumple Posted February 19, 2012 Posted February 19, 2012 Yeah it's a copy of his old 62 Jazz made by The Bass Centre I think, he's used it the last few times I've seen him with The Blockheads. Seeing them again at the Jazz Cafe this Friday Quote
PTB Posted February 19, 2012 Posted February 19, 2012 IIRC, I think he said in an old interview that rhythm stick was recorded with a maple neck 70s P-J bass. Quote
Blademan_98 Posted February 19, 2012 Posted February 19, 2012 I just checked my bank account. Sadly I am around £9,900 short Quote

BigJim Posted February 20, 2012 Posted February 20, 2012 http://andybaxterbass.com/guitars.php?cat=1 Here's a pic with Norman holding the bass on his site! Quote
Mykesbass Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012
I think it's quite sad that Norman finds it necessary to sell this. I know for some a bass is just a bass, but there must be a lot of fond memories there. I wonder if it was used to record Hit Me...?
Ad says he used the bass from the 80's - Hit Me was '78 so PTB is probably right. Quote
Rumple Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 You can see him miming with a maple necked PJ in this video from TOTP 1978 Quote

MacDaddy Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 if it's not good enough for Norman, it's not good enough for me. Quote
KevinJazzBass Posted February 25, 2012 Posted February 25, 2012 I remember reading he recorded HMWYRS with a late 70's P bass but it had a A width neck, which is is the same nut width as a jazz bass but it would still have a precision bass on the headstock. I like the way he has taken off the pickguard, showing the Jaco influence there. Quote
Rumple Posted February 25, 2012 Posted February 25, 2012 I was at last nights Jazz Cafe gig, Norman was on great form and sounding good despite the awful house rig they insist on using at the venue. Quote

BILL POSTERS Posted February 25, 2012 Posted February 25, 2012 Not far short of ten grand..with a fag burn on the headstock, Much as I love Normans playing, its obviously not from a smoke free home so I think I'll have to pass. Quote
GregHughes Posted February 25, 2012 Posted February 25, 2012 (edited) Have you seen this one on Andy Baxters website, think its new today as I do check on there quite often out of interest. http://www.andybaxte...ails.php?id=262 I was listening to Ian Dury & Blockheads the other day, some great bass playing on those early tracks. mentalextra Posted February 25, 2012 Posted February 25, 2012 Even if you had the cash spare, what could you do with it. Really. Especially if you respect the history of the instrument. Quote
