After successfully doing We Will Rock You last year we have been asked back to do Grease this year, again the music isn't my bag but I started running through the score today, much easier than WWRY but really really fun to play.

I would recommend learning the songs for fun even if you aren't doing the show.

I did the same a few years ago. Lot's of fun and easy peasy to learn as well. You can't beat a good bit of Rock 'N' Roll.

Considering doing some of it on the upright.

Can't beat a Barry Gibb song ;)

I'm considering learning the title track in the near future. Will be finding the bassline by ear. Am I right in thinking that the original, recorded version changes key at the end?

I have done this show a few times,
every where from the West End to Tokyo,
Its a real blast to play on Bass.
It's not that taxing, an easy [sight] read and as someone above said,
If its a good band, its a real groove.
Enjoy.

I've 'done' Grease twice now and it's great fun. On the other hand, I've just done The Sound Of Music and I think the bass part must've been written for the Tuba :( .

On a side note, wasn't for the leatherhead theatre was it, by chance?

On Topic, I've played a few musicals with school bands and at the local theatre, and I've always enjoyed myself. :) Anywhere from Rocky Horror Show to Rent to Carousel.

Nope - it was the Wallingford area in Oxfordshire.

Not sure if "You're The One That I Want" is in the original score but the movie soundtrack version has a great bassline.

That's the only one I ever learned from it as someone said they might need it for a jam session (never got to play in the end though!) Wouldn't say it was especially easy but a nice line as you say.

Just got offered to play in Grease next week as someone dropped out and got a last minute call.

Anyone got a PDF of the score that I could check over before rehearsals? I hate going into these kind of things and having to do all the markings etc as well as reading the dots for the first time.

Thanks in advance!
