j3ss3
Hi guys, I'm faced with a bit of a dillemma over here... I can score a mesa boogie walkabout scout 15" combo for £700 (2nd hand), and this head gets a RAVE following over on TB and actually here too (: Only gripe I know of is I don't know how reliable they are... Are these puppies versatile? Due to school reasons it's got to be able to handle jazz, rock and most difficultly Wooten-esque tone, I'm not interested at all in sterile Marcus Miller/SWR tone... OR: I could save up some more and pull the trigger on a new GB streamliner/ shuttle + Barefaced cab, now I know these amps are top notch! I like FX to shape my tone, and so could let my tube-needs be handled by something like a Dave Hall, a VT bass,... Thoughts? Jesse
wateroftyne
The Walkabout is a great head. It has a few oddities (no mute, DI is post master-volume, no Speakons), but if you want tubiness in a small head, that's the way to go (or a Streamlimer IMO). However.. the 15" Scout Cab (caveat - I've only played the 12"): The 12" combo is great for the old-school vibe (nothing Wootenesque), but it's a bugger to carry around. I imagine the 15" is a ) even harder to carry around and b ) is overly flubby, even less capable of nailing anything Wootenesque. All IMO, of course.
