Highfox
Hi. I wonder if anyone can tell me if the problem I'm having with my P-bass pickups could be anything to do with them being fairly old 1977, could it be because they are losing their magnetisim? I thought it must be a lose connection in the wiring but they have been cleanly re-soldered recently, the earth connection seems to be fine, the problem is that they seem to cut out in volume every now and then and I have to tap them to get them to cut back in. Any Ideas?
The Bass Doc
If they either work (when tapped) or don't, it's not likely to be anything to do with magnetism, since that would be a weak signal but permanent. Most likely is a dodgy joint which will involve re-soldering - very carefully. If they work when tapped you're obviously creating the connection which is not engaging properly at times. Like a lot of queries of this nature however it can only be fully analysed by a techie person seeing the bass in front of them. I would help you myself in this case but I reckon I've just missed the last bus to Finland.
Highfox
Thanks Doc. I'll get someone local who knows what to look for to check out the wiring. In my haste I already order some new pups, having a couple of P basses at my disposal I guess they won't go unused anyway.
