Clarky Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 (edited) This badly worded, shouty eBay ad with dark pictures is for an American Walnut, lined fretless Mk 1. Says code from back plate is W-2900 http://www.ebay.co.u...b#ht_500wt_1387 This is what the Wal database says about W-2900 - English olive ash facings, unlined fretless neck and a pic: http://www4.informat...ics/W2900-2.jpg Full description here http://www4.informat...al/walspec.html These are not the same bass. Even if we assume someone decided to add lines to the fretboard, the wood patterns are completely different (as are the woods!) Something very odd going on here Edited February 21, 2012 by Clarky Quote

mart Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 I don't know what the Wal serial numbers look like, but could he simply be misreading the number, e.g. if it's 2906? On the other hand, perhaps he replaced the top veneer wood at the same time as he got lines fitted to the fretboard. Quote
jezzaboy Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 Don`t know about the bass but if it sells he should use some of the money for a full stop. Jez Quote
leftyhook Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 (edited) I'd like to see a pic of the inside of the electronics cover. Where, as we all know, Pete or Wal wrote the date and wood used. I'd recognise Pete's handwriting (from that period anyway) edit: I've sent a message to them requesting pics of the inside of cover and serial number. I won't be bidding but I think it's a good idea for any potential buyers Edited February 21, 2012 by leftyhook Quote
leftyhook Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 seller responded to my q's with pic of inside of electrics cover. stands by the serial number see Q and A further down page http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=251001143691#ht_500wt_1287 Quote
Clarky Posted February 22, 2012 Author Posted February 22, 2012 Hmmm, maybe the Wal database listed bass W-2900 incorrectly? Its a shame this guy's photography skills (and English) are so rubbish as it may well be a super-nice bass but the dingey, blurred pics and CAPS LOCK problem will be putting people off (plus TBH its a few hundred quid too pricey even if its all legit IMHO) Quote
walplayer Posted February 24, 2012 Posted February 24, 2012 (edited) There's been a few instances of duplicate serial number Wals i wouldn't worry about it. Might be dodgy but just as possible , a good lunch at the snooker club before Pete put it together Have a look at the walbassesnaturally site ,there's some on there with duplicate numbers. Could have been an owner also who might have had two and switched the plate by mistake? Edited February 24, 2012 by walplayer Quote
walplayer Posted February 24, 2012 Posted February 24, 2012 Actually bass might have been in the embassy in mansfield when i went there in 96 ,there were two walnut lined ones ,one with a paddle headstock and one like that iirc. Quote
leftyhook Posted February 24, 2012 Posted February 24, 2012 (edited) Its not a clear pic, but the inside of the electonics cover has the usual stickers, the off white one, the guild, etc. all electronics identical, colour of plastics ,Multi-layered body woods exact etc. Would be an incredible fake, come on guys! . If I was the owner I would contact Paul at Electric Wood to take it over and have him verify it. Edited February 24, 2012 by leftyhook Quote
