leftyhook Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 In case you missed his fantastic performance, listen and watch this guy groove! http://youtu.be/W6fgjUpNnME Quote
KiOgon Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 I'm pleased to have seen & heard it on TV with a decent sound system 'cos it don't come across on the laptop but yes it was fabulous Quote
bassist_lewis Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 this way better than the single! I did this once for a wedding and we just played it as written (so to speak)... sounded s**t, thats one wedding ruined Quote
xilddx Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 Why do you like him (the bassist) so much? Quote
jonno1981 Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 I seriously thought he was miming all the way through the performance. Some great Jameson esque bass parts and tremendous bass tone! Maybe I need to listen again but it looked and sounded far too perfect for a live show. Quote
Weird People CAN play well live you know. A perfect sounding band CAN actually be real. Quote
GreeneKing Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 Great playing but if it was done live, and with the dancing, I'd be surprised. The bassist who played that for real possibly can't dance so well or look so good? Quote
GregHughes Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 I thought it looked mimed when I watched it last night as it was a pretty complex bass line with those dance moves. Maybe I'm just synical/jealous. Quote
leftyhook Posted February 22, 2012 Author Posted February 22, 2012 hmm....TBH when it was first on someone in my living room was talking, and I watched out of the corner of my eye assuming the band were miming. Even if he was, it will be his playing and there are some great choices of notes throughout. I take on board that his dancing and totally relaxed look leans towards someone who isn't concentrating. Clarky Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 I was just being a gear-stalker, admiring his (I assume) Pino Palladino CS Precision. Thats how sad I am Quote
Jam Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 I think if I had to play that dross, I'd try and make it as much fun for myself as possible. Quote
jonno1981 Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 The TV mix had a far better bass sound than any other band on the brits which made me a bit suspicious plus his hand movements just didn't seem to correspond to the fills I was hearing. Whoever played the part did a fantastic job but I'm not convinced the band were playing live. Quote
Dad3353 Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 Welcome back to 1958. Strass shirt and tuxedo compulsory. I thought we'd gotten past all that, but... whatever. Quote
GreeneKing Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 Jamereo Artis Regardless of whether you like his style of music or not, to say it's dross is just your opinion, many will have a different one Sound is dire but the guy isn't just a pretty face. http://youtu.be/Oqz0-IA8EAo Peter Quote
deepbass5 Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 I'll be getting the album on the strength of that. I've never heard a bass mixed that well at a rushed live event, across the whole register of the bass. ??? His mum must have been on the desk. Or could they, no not on the Beeb Quote
Musicman20 Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 Bruno Mars is. IMO, brilliant. A real talent and a good showman. Pop is actually alright nowadays. I regularly listen and play along to Bruno's album. His bassist is great. You can tell when the band plays live and they nail it. Quote
Jam Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 I thought the bass playing was quite interesting, it's Bruno Mars that I think is dross. Quote
Noisyjon Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012
I was just being a gear-stalker, admiring his (I assume) Pino Palladino CS Precision. What's slightly worrying is I was idly wondering if I could de-string, dismantle and take it home without them noticing Quote

Is our music culture so bad that a good musician moving about or singing at the same time as playing something a titchy bit complex means he must be miming? EVH is miming? Flea is miming? Geddy is miming? Fvck me :S Edited February 22, 2012 by silddx Quote
This is the thing. Bruno Mars is not dross, he is almost completely derivative, saying nothing new, but he IS very good at what he does. However, all the geezers on here saying he's great would probably have a vastly different opinion if he was the winner of X-Factor, which is what he sounds like. Quote
