I thought it might be useful to set up threads with good YT clips of particular bass styles (eg, funk, metal, latin, jazz etc) but since I am a bit besotted with my Wal at the moment thought I'd start with fretless bass. Feel free to chuck in further clips so it can be a sort of style library for those interested in delving in.

This guy is a very melodic player of a fretless Wal 5 string - here's his version of Jaco's 'Come on, Come over' followed by a very easy-on-the-ear improvisation over one chord

Bireli Lagrene, the master of gypsy jazz guitar, shows that he could also have been a masterful bassist albeit with a huge debt to Jaco (with whom he played in a trio in the 1980s)
