MelP
Any advice on sting type, brand, length and gauge for me for a 30.5" short scale bass? I play rock so I'm thinking of getting round wire medium gauge (45-105) non tapered, long scale strings, maybe Ernie Balls. Would that work? Thanks. Paul. weeleigh
Hi Paul, I play a Gibson EBO which is a short scale. I use D'Addario EPS170S Prosteels Roundwound strings which are .045-.100 gauge. They give me a great sound with my covers band. Hope that helps. Cheers, Leigh.
goingdownslow
I have a set of Elites short scale 45-105 on my EB3, got them from the Bass Centre a (good) while back. Edited February 24, 2012 by goingdownslow
lozbass
It would be good to know the type of bass - beware, if it has a sting anchor behind the bridge, standard short-scale strings might be a tight fit. This is the case with a couple of mine and I use medium-scale strings. My two favourites are d'Addario nickel rounds (I use light or extra light guage), and TI Jazz Rounds. The d'Addarios are probably better for rock and the company supplies stainless steel rounds if these are to your preference. On the issue of long-scale EBs, I'd avoid this - it depends on the type of bass but you could experience problems at the tuner end
MelP
Thanks for your advice. I have an Epiphone EB-0 30.5" scale bass. I ended up buying Ernie Ball Super Slinkies (.045-.100). I like my Epiphone but I'm keen to get something better but it must be short scale. Any ideas? I could go for the Giibson EB-0 like weeleigh who replied first on this thread.
