fryer Posted February 24, 2012 Posted February 24, 2012 (edited) I have just bought a Hagstrom Viking semi acoustic bass ( from here of course ) but it is uncomfortably neck heavy. Any ideas on how to balance it better ? Edited March 7, 2012 by fryer Quote
2x18 Posted February 24, 2012 Posted February 24, 2012 I used a wide Mono strap when I had it, and didnt really find it a problem - although I never gigged with it. Its certainly no worse than the EB2, Rivolis, and Starfires that I have had! The Hagstrom tuners are quite hefty ( But good and very classy looking! ) so you could possibly fit some lightweight ones if you can find some to suit! Will. Quote
fryer Posted February 24, 2012 Author Posted February 24, 2012 Hi Will. Apart from the above, it's a lovely bass, and I'm sure I'll sort something out. Quote
fryer Posted March 7, 2012 Author Posted March 7, 2012 Sorted. I removed the tailpiece, drilled a 1" x 4" hole, filled it with lead. Now balanced Quote
essexbasscat Posted March 7, 2012 Posted March 7, 2012 Did you use fishing weights ? if not, how did you do it ? Quote
apa Posted March 7, 2012 Posted March 7, 2012 (edited) Thats a bit OTT for me. Whats wrong with a brick on a string tied to the bottom strap pin? A Edited March 7, 2012 by apa Quote
fryer Posted March 7, 2012 Author Posted March 7, 2012 I had a roll of lead left from previous building work. Just rolled it tightly. Fitted a hardwood plug to cover, and to take he strap button screw. Wish I'd have thought about a brick before I started Quote

Needless to say Hipshot is developing an ultralite version Quote
