Since Andy of Wizard isnt doing specials anymore Im having to find an alternative for a set of Jazz 5ers. I was looking forward to a set of 84's but oh well..............

So what would you recommend? Im after something full and strong but not OTT. Nothing woolly though. Its a mindfield discribing tone but we'll give it a shot. Cost wise Im in the £100+ ball park and it would be even better if they were UK made. Ive had a look at the Demarzio sets but never heard them. Its going to be for a fretless btw. Size wise its not a prob. Its a project.

Wadaya recon then??

cheers

A

I've got Bill Lawrence j45s in my custom 5er (genuine ones - not the naughty ones that use his name) along with a Schack pre. A more broad ranging, open sounding set of pups I've never heard. Like hen's teeth though.

If I didn't have these I'd probably go for Nordy NJ5FS's (although NJ4SE's fit mine).... but they are a different kettle of mid focused fish.

If it is for a fretless then I would suggest MEC passives. I always found them great pickups on passive basses, thoman stock the neck but not bridge (I am sure an email to them would get a bridge as well) here -

Failing that if you want some real punch -

1/4 pounders.

That is a hell of a price!
