Dave Tipping
I currently have a set of these on http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ERNIE-BALL-SLINKY-ELECTRIC-BASS-GUITAR-STRINGS-POWER-55-110-ROUNDWOUND-/170721224700?pt=UK_Guitar_Accessories&hash=item27bfc727fc#ht_500wt_717 .. we play in a drop D# tuning and found thinner strings to be too jangly .. had to re-set up my bass, but I've still got a pretty low action without any buzzing even when digging in. woodyratm
I was using the ernie ball regulars. Also love the DR coated ones now.

Hobbayne
Been using these on all my basses recently, nickel strings for me too! Edited February 28, 2012 by Hobbayne
paulypbass
i normally get ernie ball strings in that gauge. the only gay thing about nickel strings is they really dont last that long but i personally think they sound much nicer. Wylie
D'addario Chromes flatwounds. A bit more expensive, and a little darker and tighter, than GHS flatwounds.
icastle
Elixir for 4 and 5 string roundwounds. D'Addario EXLs for 6 string roundwound. Rotosound SM77 flatwounds for 4 string fretless.
Judo Chop
GHS Half Rounds, a nice middle ground between rounds and flats.
Doddy
I've tried a lot of strings over the years (Fender,Ernie Ball,Rotosound,Elixir,D'addario,DR,Hartke,GHS and others I can't think of right now),but I'm now using Elites Stadium Series on all my main basses . I really like the feel and sound of them, and I find that they last well too. I prefer stainless steel strings to nickel and I really don't like coated strings. Lozz196
Rotosound Swingbass 66, heavy gauge. No matter what other strings I`ve tried, nothing works as well for me. I don`t however like them new - they need to be about 4 months old at least. From there, I`ve kept sets on basses for 2 years.
LemonCello
Ernie Ball hybrid slinky's are my current fave, although I've recently put some Cocco's on my Vigier and I'm impressed.
Conan
After years of using rotos, then Elites, then D'Addarios I am now working my way through the DR range! I am pretty impressed. They are not cheap, but they just seem to have more tone than the other strings I've used. Nice feel too
Sibob
I use Newtone Strings, hand-wound up in Derby. They have stock models, but essentially you can have any guage & tension you want. Around same price as Roto's/Elites too. Their only downside is that they don't do flats Si
bottomfeed
Tried a lot, over the years... but I've been settled on these for the longest, so far... keep coming back to them..
WHUFC BASS
DR Hi-Beams or D'addario Pro-Steels. Nothing else comes close imo.
bartelby
Currently using D'Addario rounds on most of my basses and DR Neons on my Stingray, which is my main bass these days.

TheGreek
I prefer a light guage string - normally 40-90 but 35s if I can get them...not sure if this makes any difference to longevity..I've used everything - DR LLRs, Rotosounds, Trace Elliotts (surprisingly good for the price) and Alice strings (hex-core wound, made in China, come in different colours - also surprisingly good). Like Lozz I'm also not a lover of new strings - too tinny until they bed in - normally a couple of weeks for me. I haven't used EB since the 80s after buying a set which I thought were really poor after getting rave reviews about them.. Not convinced that paying extra gets you more for your money.. Marvin
just put some fender nickels on today. sounding nice to be fair. was going to buy some ernie balls again but there like £24 in the music shop i go to. should of got them off ebay,
I bought a set of those a few months ago and put them on a Corvette, sound really good. I've stuck with D'Addarrio XL's over the last 3 years though. They're not expensive and sound good. Several people have told me that D'Addario make Fender strings anyway. Muzz
Tried lots and lots of strings over the years. Some I actively don't like (Rotosound Stainless, Warwick Reds), some I don't mind (EB Slinkys, Fender Nickels), and some I really like - DR Sunbeams when I'm flush, D'Addarios when I'm not. Oh, and Hartke cheapos on my Fortress, they just seem to suit it.
charic
I used D'addario Prosteels and Newtone Customs
Mog
Been using Dean Markley Blue Steels a lot over the last few months. D'Addario is always a good fall back for me.
