floFC Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 Hi, It is time to change the strings on my bass, and I am suddenly concerned I may not be able to put any old strings on it. It's a Hohner b-Bass with a massive bridge with fine tuning pegs on it (essentially some screws pressing down on the strings). Would strings tapered at the ball end be suitable or will they cause issues with the fine tuners (I am thinking that they may not approve of a much smaller string diameter to press on)? The internet does not seem to have an opinion on this matter. Cheers. Quote
fonzoooroo Posted March 2, 2012 Posted March 2, 2012 If the string has little/no left/right movement, I'd think it'd be fine. If in doubt, pick up the cheapest set you can find that are tapered, and try them. It'll either work, leaving you with a set of cheapie strings fitted and a definitive answer, or it won't - leaving you with a set of cheapie strings for something else (fresh set for something on sale day!) and a definitive answer! floFC Posted March 6, 2012 Author Posted March 6, 2012 Thanks fonzoooroo, good idea! I'll try to get some cheap tapered strings and give it a go. Quote
