Valve layout in a Burman Pro 4000

Bit of an obscure one but I know there are a few owners about. My one came with no valves, so dunno if it wants things other than ECC83 in some slots.

I have one. I'll go and open it up now. Pretty sure mine has the standard equipment in the pre-amp side.

OK, reporting back - 5 Mazda ECC83 , which are probably original. I seem to recall that Kiwi took 'em out to try something else and put them back again. They're pretty hot though - you lose your clean sound much above 3 on the pre-stage gain, and I was thinking about trying something with a bit less gain in my weaker moments.

Power stage - I have JJ KT77s in mine and I love them. They're as close as you can get to what these amps were designed for without forking out silly money.

Oddball - I think some of the guitar amps use a different valve for the spring reverb.

There was an 81 and an 82 in my 502 with reverb. That has more valves all round though. Probably supposed to be an 81 somewhere if its dirtying up, Burman wasn't a dirt sorta guy. JJ KT77 is the plan, as used by Killing Joke.

Well, in that case many happy returns. Where did you get your Pro 4000 from, not the non-working one on Ebay at the moment that looks like it's been recovered with carpet?

Mine sounded immense through Merton's Vintage.

Shh, after that. Bought it off another BCer not working, but fairly close to working. Now it is working, the LF boost switch is bit dicky, so gotta sort that, and get proper valves in it. Using with Barefaced Super 15.

Dont tend to use that switch much. Interesting that the bass amps have a LF Boost and the guitar amps have a high cut ...
