filling pickup route

Recommended Posts

If you are spraying a solid colour, doesn't matter so much as it will cover a multitude of sins. Slice up a chuink of woo and some half dowels, glue into the hole, sand it roughly flush, fill the holes with wood filler, sand it all flush. Or if you want to change the balance you can hide a hole or weight in there. Probably not ideal position, but its there.

Follow the instructions Mr Foxen gave - if you just fill the hole up with wood filler then it'll take months to dry and will probably just fall out as it shrinks.

Any easily workable but seasoned wood is fine, as in one that isn't going to shrink or something, well amtured scrap wood that hasn't been damp or anything. Try and follow the grain direction in case is does shrink some, it will look better.

Dowel is just round bits of wood for the purpose of filling in the gaps for the screw lugs, much easier than carving a piece to shape.

Rounding the hole square is quite a task and generally taking wood off the body is to be avoided. Doing that would be advisable if you weren't having a solid colour and has to avoid seams.
