sticker
So 4 years or so after first expressing an interest in one this morning I became the owner of an Eastcoast(Stagg) EUB ... It has minor cosmetic damage , but nothing that some woodglue won't sort out , brand new strings (although I suspect that these are full size rather than 3/4 as there's a lot of excess on the machineheads) ... All for a ridiculously low price ! I've read the Stagg megathread and am raring to go , any advice greatly received. apa
Good aint they :-) Once youve sorted out the set up they play pretty good. I lowered the nut and the D and A notches in the bridge to get the action and intonation right. A good set of strings and off you go. I had to tweek the EQ quit a bit to balance the tone and dont use the 'Sub Bass' at all. I think they can be quit delicate since the wood hidden under the paint probably isnt very strong. Im not sure why theres a truss rod in there either. Did you get the stand? Its exellent value. I made a string mute if needed - http://basschat.co.uk/topic/160704-accessorise-your-eub-with-this-seasons-must-have-string-damper/page__fromsearch__1 One small thing to note too. If your putting it on carpet put something like a pringle lid under the rubber end. Your misses will thank you for not peppering your best axminster with little black dots! Finally, my neck is a bit sticky but Im going to try a bit of fine wet & dry in a while to see what that does. A
sticker
Gah! Just setting it up and a machinehead popped! Nevermind , will benefit from a new set anyway !
apa
Ah but its not quit that simple Im afraid Those posts face into each other so you'll have to watch the length on replacements. There is a thread on here somewhere thats all about such a problem. Here it is but not much use: http://basschat.co.u...__1#entry551660 Depends where its 'popped'? If the post has snapped then yep its a problem. If any of the other bits have gone you may be able to do a straight parts swap with a generic 'fender' machine head. sticker
Ah , life is never simple is it ! The bit that has gone is the shaft that fits into the 'elephants ear' , the ear bit fell off in my hand and the part that fit inside it had split in 2 and half sheared off completely ... the gearing is all good , just stuck at D . apa
Ah then all is not lost You can get some cheap generic ones and swap the posts and have a matching set. I went through this exercise with the guy on the post i quoted. It just so happens that I have a set of 4 that I dont want that I did a provisional check with and they appear to match. Pop me a PM if they can be of any help A EDIT: Or you can just get a replacement set from Stagg like yorks5stringer suggests Edited March 3, 2012 by apa
apa
Just to let everyone know. Wilkinson Standard 'Fender style' Machine Heads can be used for parts replacement on Stagg EUB's. A
