noj
Firstly Id like to say hello to all you bassers. The force is strong here. Troll question = Pastorious vs Squarepusher mash? Real Question = Valves vs Transistors? Controversial Question = Active or Passive bass? Taboo Question = 4 or 5 strings? Open Question = E A D G tuning or B E A D I love both named bassers for everything they have done so far. Just hope Squarepusher lasts longer. I have tasted both worlds of valves and transistor. Im wantint to tame and master my current set up of Burman 4000 pro all lush valve amp. just need to sort hums and crackles out... I use Ashdown/Trace-E 2 cabs 1 x 15 at the moment, but thinking of 2x10 and 1 x 15 combo Active basses I have. I killed one that killed my amp (Horner stick of crud) and made it passive, and its good to commute with on a bike. I have a treasured Viger Passion 4 wich is my old faithfull, and ghod does it sound lush with valves and a 4x10 and more. I stumbled across a 5 string with a bubinga body and a SHINE name - it needed so much tweaking and i didnt miss the G string after all. A cheap and cheerful tester of 5 strings. After having a shot of an Overwater 6, the string spacing was the bench mark. Shine got close here. Reccomended for the dosh (2 pice bridge, 'Humbucker' and another J style pUps, with an impressive range of tones, shimmed neck to bring action 'down' its good) After using the Viger for so long, the planks of wood out there sounded great too, so i ended up with a 50s Presision Squire - 1 pUp, 2 pots and fat 5 string set up for B E A D string set up - NICE tones! Id love a shot of a Fender Jaguar delux set up with 5 strings or B E A D. I dont go for FX cuz they suk mostly. If anything - Mesaboogy valve preamp, and various distortions. I tend to use finger positions for changes in tones. Bass and phaser/flange makes me puke. I like the sound of alot of different players too. I think VL Wooten is god of slap and harmony, a whole bunch of African Bassists are unsung heros too, Squarepusher for comp and mental ability, dude from KingsX has an awesome sound, like dude from Faith No More, Flea is fun and nutty, like Pastorius was... I think id better stop there. While Im here Id like to say i need some help to sort out my Burman 4000 pro. Some odd things on the circut board, and some noises i aint had before - low hum. I have replaced the valves 3 times from wear and tear, and got new pre amp tubes too. A kick in the nuts, and thinking a valve preamp pedal and a tranny power amp is best for bank and my back. Suggestions welcome. Cheers fellow subbers
TheGreek
Hey Noj - welcome to the forum - I like your sense of humour...you've come in with some very hot Qs, 4s-v-5s, EADG/BEAD, God-v-Squarepusher (sorry don't know who he is but will be going to youtube to find out)... If you need some help with your Burman check out the "For Sale" thread - "ebay links.." where somebody in the States is trying to sell one of our member's Burman. One thing you get in spades here is free expertise - if somebody doesn't know they know somebody who does or post a question in a relevant section ( could be more than one..) Again...welcome...
