NancyJohnson Posted March 4, 2012 Posted March 4, 2012 (edited) I've seen the tantalising remark on the Probass site and have been wondering for a while what the Vantage is going to look like. Skimming through eBay and here it is: ...I have to say I quite like it in a Ricky-Fenderish style. P Edited March 4, 2012 by NancyJohnson Quote
Gust0o Posted March 4, 2012 Posted March 4, 2012 (edited) You know, I quite like that. I'm seeing Ric; I'm seeing Fender; and I'm wondering why Reverend haven't already made one! Just checked: £219? Fecking bargain, surely? Someone buy one Edited March 4, 2012 by Gust0o Quote
Magnolia Posted March 4, 2012 Posted March 4, 2012 That looks awesome. I love it. For the price Im going to order one. I'm a massive fan of the Retrovibe basses. The RV4 I had played brilliantly. Quote
gjones Posted March 4, 2012 Posted March 4, 2012 (edited) And it's got a musicman bridge? It's a real Frankenstein bass (which is not necessarily a bad thing). Edited March 4, 2012 by gjones Quote
Lozz196 Posted March 4, 2012 Posted March 4, 2012 I really like that, it`s so wrong, that it`s right. Quote
tommorichards Posted March 4, 2012 Posted March 4, 2012 that would benefit from a preamp surely! Quote
Jerry_B Posted March 4, 2012 Posted March 4, 2012 Yuck - it's certainly been beaten with the ugly stick IMHO Quote
I like this Though this sentiment has gotten me into a lot of trouble, over the years Do previous RV4 owners know if the block markers are stickers or genuine inlays? NancyJohnson Posted March 4, 2012 Author Posted March 4, 2012 (edited) I just added a photo of the black one. How hot would an all black model look? Well look, if David wants to send me one, I'll do a review. I'm gigging on 13th and supposed to be recording the week after that. P Edited March 4, 2012 by NancyJohnson Quote
Gust0o Posted March 4, 2012 Posted March 4, 2012
The blocks on the Jazz one were stick on.
Aw, not the answer I wanted - still, that hasn't stopped me using such on my own basses! Quote
Deep Thought Posted March 4, 2012 Posted March 4, 2012 Cor, I really like that-I can see one of those in my future. If I hadn't just bought a new wireless I'd be all over one of those by now! Love that Rick/Fender hybrid look. Wonder what it sounds like? Quote
Low End Bee Posted March 5, 2012 Posted March 5, 2012 Not too shabby at all. I quite like that. I would hope the neck is a nice palm filler like my RV4 and not too jazz thin. Quote
visog Posted March 5, 2012 Posted March 5, 2012 I quite like them too. Sort of a funky take on a Rickie. A 'Frickie'? (Reminds me a little of JE's Fenderbird mash-ups.) Anyone tried one? What do they sound like? Quote
tommorichards Posted March 5, 2012 Posted March 5, 2012 Ive got a similar set up on my bass And id say it sounds quite scooped. If you were to add coil selection on the MM, which i probably would if i got it, then im sure it'd be amazing. Quote
Leon Transaxle Posted March 5, 2012 Posted March 5, 2012 This really looks the nuts to me. Everything I love in basses rolled into one slightly italicised package. Jazz neck, blocks (even if stuck on), white Ric body, black hardware, 'bucker and single coil. The Fenderbird comparison hits the nail right on the head. Had I not got my pair of Ps lately the order would have gone in already. Quote
Icarus_147 Posted March 5, 2012 Posted March 5, 2012 I like this more than I liked their RV4s. Anyone here own/owned a Retrovibe? I couldn't bring myself to buy a Ric copy because I'd have felt like I was lying to myself. Were they any good? Quote
Mr. Foxen Posted March 6, 2012 Posted March 6, 2012 A good cheap bass. which are pretty good these days. Think the one I had was bit of a Friday job, but nothing that couldn't be sorted easy enough. Quote

geoffbyrne Posted March 6, 2012 Posted March 6, 2012 .....if only they did these as 5ers......... G. Quote

Fret dress, new nut, all pots, jack and switch upgraded. I ditched one of the tone controls for a variable coil tap on the neck pickup which worked a treat. The pickups have loads of output and are really very nice. The finish and hardware is good too. I played it back to back with three 4001s in the shop I had the work done and it was nicer than all of them for a Precision player to play. The neck is very P and not very Ric. I've gigged it a fair few times. I just prefer a Precision as my 'go to' bass. Quote
LemonCello Posted March 6, 2012 Posted March 6, 2012 Erm....................................No! Quote
CBbass Posted March 6, 2012 Posted March 6, 2012 These are awesome basses, love the look and spec. I would love to get one and upgrade some of the parts. I was actually just about to make a topic about this but found this thread when I scrolled down, doh! There is however someone claiming over on the talkbass thread, his design was ripped off (page 2). I honestly prefer this design a whole lot more, it's very tempting!
