BigRedX
How about this one? Quite a few weirdos here http://www.lordbizarre.com/
I was guessing that this was likely to be Eastern European and sure enough here it is on Cheesy Guitars. I don't really know much about these kinds of guitars and basses because although there are some fantastic looking designs, IME as useable musical instruments they leave a lot to be desired. It makes you realise that apart from a handful of European makes like Burns and Hofner, US made electric guitars and basses in the 50s and 60s were miles ahead in terms of quality. It's good to see that there's a load of modern manufacturers, such as DiPinto, Eastwood, Hallmark and Italia (to name a few) attempting to capture the vibe of these quirky and interesting looking instruments, but building them in line with modern expectations of quality and playability. What isn't so impressive is the fact that too many of these retro instruments are basically unusual body and headstock shapes fitted out with generic off-the-shelf pick ups and hardware. It would be nice to see more manufacturers taking the eccentric hardware of these guitars and recreating them using modern engineering techniques to make something that is both functional and in keeping with the overall design of the original instrument. IMO the old manufacturer of these modern-retro guitars that gets it right in this respect is Hallmark.
BigRedX
I thought you might enjoy them. You should ask how much for a telecaster one
That's what I like about threads like this. Every so often someone will post something that I've never seen before and that I find worth investigating further.

BigRedX
This? Even if the URL hadn't given it away, I'd have recognised this as the work of Douglas Mullen's Eve Guitars. He's been in Bass Guitar Magazine recently and IIRC he's actually a member here. The instruments are little bit too influenced by Carl Thompson for my tastes, but probably don't take as long to build or cost quite as much as a CT bass...
oh, you looked at the url an you've heard of them. I hadn't till a fretless showed up new in my local shop, they have a couple of his guitars too. Looked well built, not to my taste. If I ever go the custom route I think my build will be very dull in comparison!

BigRedX
That one's reasonably easy if you've seen one before - it's an Alvarez Dana Scoop. There were several different versions including one with a three-coil pickup in the bridge position. Alvarez weren't the only manufacturer to cut parts of the body out in the string path. There was also the even more extreme MB Guitars and more recently Kronodale. There's even a bass guitar made by Petrounov.
bartelby
Probably a really easy on for BRX but what's the guitar and bass in this (skip to 4:25 as there's a really long intro) EDIT: in fact you can tell from the preview shot (of the guitar anyway. The bassist is playing an Apple Adjustable keyboard in the shot) EDIT 2: Watch all the way to the end to see their Tesla Coil. Hallmark are a fantastic guitar company. They make what is IMO the best Moserite clone if you can't afford the real thing or a Fillmore. I own one of their limited edition Wing-Bat guitars which is a cross between the Swept-Wing model and the Batmobile! BigRedX
noelk27, I'm going to have to admit you've got me there. Admittedly the bass is a bit too conventional to fall into my radar. Looking at the shape of headstock it reminds be of the late 80s Washburn ABT models, but the TRC is wrong. The bridge and tail-piece look like 4-string versions of the hardware found on the Dean and Schecter 8-string basses from the late 90s early 2000s. I would guess far-eastern but not Japanese (although probably made for the Japanese market) from the mid 90s. How did I do?

noelk27
How did I do?
It's an AKAI "Project Nineteen Ninety-Seven". Both guitar and bass versions were available, when launched in '97/'98, but very few were ever produced. Made in Japan, this is one of the very few that had the digital effects circuit on-board, and is also finished in the least common colour. It, and its guitar twin, reside in my collection.
