TomRichards Posted March 5, 2012 Posted March 5, 2012 Satin black is becoming very popular on basses in the US. So I will ask my friends from your side of the pond what are your color preferences for your basses? Quote
icastle Posted March 5, 2012 Posted March 5, 2012 None for me. I don't even like painted woodwork in my house let alone on guitars. Quote
GregHughes Posted March 5, 2012 Posted March 5, 2012 It depends on the guitar for me. I like black on Stingrays. Quote
BigRedX Posted March 5, 2012 Posted March 5, 2012 For me it also depends on the instrument. Between all the different guitars and basses I own there is probably at least one example of all the common finishes and IMO each looks right on the instrument that it is on. Having said that I don't think you can go far wrong with black (but not in combination with maple), red or anything sparkly. Quote
paul_5 Posted March 5, 2012 Posted March 5, 2012 Ooooh, Olympic white for anything Fender make (with a Burgundy tort scratchplate), or Tobacco sunburst with a white 'pearloid' plate is lovely too. Black is a bit, well, meh . Quote
Truckstop Posted March 5, 2012 Posted March 5, 2012 I would say sunburst and natural are probably the two most common bass colours here. Maybe some kind of red too. And black. Quite a few blue ones too I think. Truckstop Quote
TomRichards Posted March 5, 2012 Author Posted March 5, 2012
Black. With a mirror scratchplate.
A little Thin Lizzy thing, eh? Quote

chrismuzz Posted March 5, 2012 Posted March 5, 2012 Black, Dark red, natural finish if its a dark wood with nice grain Quote

Icarus_147 Posted March 5, 2012 Posted March 5, 2012 (edited) It varies from guitar to guitar, but I'm a big fan of more unusual burst colours. My favourites would probably be Silver and Purpleburst, and Blueburst if it's done right. Some guitars suit being colourful, some don't. I'd love an orange Ric mind. Or white. TomRichards Posted March 5, 2012 Author Posted March 5, 2012 Here is one, well backlit, in "British Racing Green." I kind of fancy it in the pictures, but not sure how it would look onstage. Quote
I played a transparent black Tanglewood on stage once that went green when the lights hit it. I really didn't like it very much. Personal opinion and all that though. Cat Burrito Posted March 5, 2012 Posted March 5, 2012 Most of my main players have been sunburst which is funny because traditionally it's not a colour I'd go for. I can only assume I do it to upset Wayne! I like white and I like natural finishes too Quote
Bassmekanik Posted March 6, 2012 Posted March 6, 2012
black.
I`m with this. Has to be Black. Quote
Lozz196 Posted March 6, 2012 Posted March 6, 2012 In regards to Fenders: White with black or tort scratchplate, rosewood fretboard Sunburst with tort scratchplate, rosewood fretboard Black with black scratchplate, maple fretboard Quote

bartelby Posted March 6, 2012 Posted March 6, 2012 No 2 of my basses are the same colour. Apart from the black and maple Stingray and Steve Harris sig Fender colour is the lowest priority. Quote
