Green Alsatian
If he refuses to sell it to the highest bid, he'll end up with a negative feedback from the buyer and will still have to pay the 9% final value fees. Could be expensive for him if it sells for £500 and he wanted nearer £1000. He should really have covered himself with a reserve price, so that he can walk away if the highest bid doesn't meet it. KiOgon
There's some strange wordiness in there, I don't think it's gonna be a straightforward sale.

Read less Our client won this French dining room table from an eBay seller for just £51.00, which was actually worth over ten times this amount. The seller refused to part with the table and refunded the £51.00 via PayPal, telling our client to sort his problem out with eBay. Instead e-sue drafted county court proceedings for the loss of bargain suffered, which the eBay seller defended vigorously. The court ruled that the winning bid created a binding contract between seller and buyer, and that the seller breached her contract by refusing to allow collection. Judgment for over £650.00 was awarded to our client for the loss of bargain suffered. However the eBay seller refused to pay, so e-sue then prepared to take a second charge over her home, resulting in an immediate bankers draft for the full amount. Why won't people just use a reserve if they require a minimum amount for an item and let the market decide if it is reasonable or not. I list 99% of my items with a start price of 99p and no reserve whether the item is worth £10.00 or £500.00. This creates interest and gets people watching and bidding. Mr. Foxen
I just start stuff at what I want for it. I don't really see the point in a reserve, just frustrates people. I don't sell for less that I want, I don't pay for anything if unsold, if its worth loads more to people it will get bid up.
Happy Jack
Getting back to the instrument for a second, that appears to be a genuine, all-original 1964 Hofner 191(i). I've been monitoring Hofner sales on eBay for maybe six years now. That's the second 191 I've ever seen offered for sale, and the first 191(i) - i.e. the first version of this particular model, there was a later 191(ii). To a collector, this is verging on priceless. As an instrument to play, I wouldn't get too excited about it.

paul_5
To be honest, If it's really THAT collectible and one of your terms of sale is that all potential buyers should provide evidence of 'worthiness' to actually own it, then I'd say he's foolish to list it on the bay. Surely a rare instrument shop / specialist forum would be far more appropriate?

A collector in the right circles will snap that up in next to no time.
Dad3353
I wouldn't be too hard on the lad, he seems to genuinely not know what 'commercial' value this may (or may not..!) have. There appears to be an enormous sentimental value, from family 'original owner', and, for my part, I think the guy's sincere in wanting this oddity to be appreciated. I have a couple of Hofners, and there's a certain 'clique', or small group of folks who find these collectable (as, indeed, are other makes...); unfortunately for this bloke, we're not an especially rich bunch..! That's part of the reason for liking Hofners; they're not that expensive (mostly...). I wish him good luck with the sale. I'd be interested somewhat, but SHMBO would never understand..!
