I believe Jimi Hendrix played for them early on when he was a session guitarist for Motown Hitsville. Quote
molan Posted March 10, 2012 Posted March 10, 2012 This one kills me every time: Although this runs it very close, their version of the Todd classic: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GI6Ae0eqjbc Quote

I remember hearing it when I was about 12-13 and thinking how great it sounded amongst the dross on the radio at the time. Quote
molan Posted March 10, 2012 Posted March 10, 2012 (edited) And let's not forget their roots - one of my all time favourite Motown numbers: I have an original copy of this on 7", one of my treasured possessions Edited March 10, 2012 by molan Quote

essexbasscat Posted March 10, 2012 Posted March 10, 2012 Memorable time while rehearsing with a rock band that played AC/DC, Deep Purple, Bon Jovi etc. I started playing Harvest for the World while casually strumming a spare acoustic. The whole band pounced on it there and then and it turned into a glorious 10 minutes of improvised harmonies and sensitive playing. Fantastic memories playing a great song. Quote
Paul S Posted March 10, 2012 Posted March 10, 2012 Huge fan. What a voice! Don't let me be lonely tonight http://youtu.be/6HsDiu4V8P0 Hope you feel better love - Ernie had another go at that solo in this one. I only discovered this track buried in the middle of their 50 track greatest hits, most of which I hadn't heard but are awesome. The Bass Doc Posted March 10, 2012 Posted March 10, 2012 Can't embed/won't embed, but 'Behind a Painted Smile' contains one of my favourite snare drum sounds and a stroke of genius to stick that bit on the end. Quote

Great band, great musicians. What a run of classic albums - so consistent. Quote

RhysP Posted March 10, 2012 Posted March 10, 2012 I love a lot of their stuff but I think their version of "Hello it's me" is atrocious; even worse than the original Nazz version. Quote
+1 Loved the Isley's Motown output - especially 'Take some time out for love' which I think was the follow up to 'This old heart of mine'. Think they often get a bit overlooked when people refer to Motown's legacy. Quote
yorks5stringer Posted March 11, 2012 Posted March 11, 2012 Remember (yawn) getting 3+3 when it came out and the next two albums after. They seemed to loose it a bit after then. I've not replaced my old scratchy vinyl discs with CD's yet so maybe I need to make a few purchases! Great music at its time and still sounds fresh now. Quote
