Low End Bee
Thanks for the heads up. Just down the road fron me. This could get expensive.
Paul S
I have also just discovered that these are 'relatively' lightweight - obeche and just over 8lbs. I'd assumed they were heavy like my old Hayman 4040 was. Be interesting to see how much this makes as it seems a good one. I'm more interested in a do-er-upper. WalMan
Aaaah those were the days. Gigging with a pair of Marathons in a band that all used Shergolds
BarnacleBob
I had a new one just like that back in 79. £118 from Thomsons Music in Glasgow. Recently i think they have been around £300 or so. Nice players if u can get past the looks and that ashtray. BB
[/sup] [sup]Yes Marathon basses are nice and light, I've owned quite a few the only problem is the stereo circuitry means the pickups have a bit of a weak sound when played with a splitter to get a mono signal - unless the bass has been modded. Its not a Mark1 version as this had a small oblongish separate scratchplate around the pickup and the bodies were heavier (ex Hayman stock). I'd bid if it weren't the dreaded 'pickup only' as its miles from me! Lovely example. It looks just like one I bought last year....but it isn't as that had typical Shergold finish checking.[/sup]

Regarding the parallel wired pickup with stereo circuitry - I just rewired mine in series with mono ouput. Replaced the 100k pots & two plastic jack sockets for decent 250k CTS pots & a switchcraft socket. Was an easy, reversible mod - worth doing to these. This one hasn't the usual lacquer cracking, wonder if it's a refinish? Still a lovely looking example, wouldn't mind another one
brummie
Any BCers going to bid on this? I might if no-one else is -it looks a beaut & not far from me.

I've since realised that I won't use it and can't justify/afford a sentimental purchase much as I'd love to have a nice example of my first proper base. Rumple
Loved my white maple boarded fretless one back in the day, shame I sold it to buy a Jazz bass as I haven't seen one the same for sale since. Good luck on the bidding. R.

MoonBassAlpha
I had a Marathon 6-string fretless that had no checking in the (very thick) finish, so it does happen!
