louisthebass Posted March 12, 2012 Posted March 12, 2012 Couldn't find a decent recorded version but this is a live version of an 80's classic: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jFwxBm_OHLM&feature=fvwrel I always thought it was Pino on the original? Chris2112 Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 This one is all about that classic 'growling' sound. Just check out the awesome snap on the line at 02:06: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UWOd1N-njlc&ob=av2e Simply stunning stuff, one of the great basslines of that era and probably Erasure's best. A bass line is the low notes of the song irrespective of the instrument they're played on or how it's being played. Besides there's nothing pre-programmed about this line. It's all analogue step time sequencing where you had to tune in every note pitch by hand (and ear). Quote

BrunoBass Posted November 20, 2015 Posted November 20, 2015 Dave Peacock from Chas and Dave on 'Rabbit'. Seriously, some funky octaves and some tasty little runs. He gave his Precision away on Swap Shop I remember. I sent in about twenty postcards trying to win it! Quote

41.2Hz Posted November 20, 2015 Posted November 20, 2015 Sir Horace Gentleman - pretty much all of the first album by The Specials. This is why I play bass. A special (no pun intended) mention for Nite Klub - part of my warm up to this day. Quote
paul_5 Posted November 20, 2015 Posted November 20, 2015 Been going through some 80s lines this week and found another gem - ' The Cure's Fascination Street'. Great baseline and an awesome tone. https://youtu.be/7ZsQdLlvuk4 Quote
lowdown Posted November 20, 2015 Posted November 20, 2015 (edited) Although the album was released in 1979, this track didn't hit the UK charts until 1980. Does that count? Narada Michael Walden (Killer Bass line and tricky to nail). 02:50, there is a breakdown of just Bass and Drums, and the Bass really jumps out http://youtu.be/dFSB_tbHb6Q Edited November 20, 2015 by lowdown Quote
Lo-E Posted November 20, 2015 Posted November 20, 2015 Pretty interesting that this thread resurfaced after three years lying dormant. So many basslines from the eighties. So many great ones already mentioned. Where to start? It's an embarrassment of riches.... Here are two just off the top of my head that are a bit of the beaten path of most of the thread: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WQgu0MpnKq8 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0nkMhU1SulM Quote
