Can I add Madonna's Into The Groove to that? Synth bass, and awesome to boot.
+1 more. I loved those '80's synth bass lines.

I remember dancing to this in Vogue night club* in Chester, many a time.

*Great club for a time, in the early 1980s They didnt let in people improperly dressed. I remember seeing two incredulous guys in suits get turned away for being dressed wrong, as a guy in a donkey jacket dirty jeans and doc martens wandered past without a look from the bouncers. Ahh bliss and karmic re payment for all the times it was the other way round. :)

Vogue? Which one was that? (my memory's quite hazy from then!)
I used to go to Roxy Bowie night at Angels and Friday/Saturday at Olivers with my Dave Sylvian haircut and German Army black jodphurs.

Fretless was in fashion. The Pino stuff for Paul Young, pretty much anything by Mick Karn. Who did the fretless stuff foe Nick Heywood/Haircut 100?
The fretless bass on Nick Haywards early stuff was Pino.

Sir Horace Gentleman - pretty much all of the first album by The Specials. This is why I play bass.

A special (no pun intended) mention for Nite Klub - part of my warm up to this day.

So many amazing 80s' bass lines but I'd forgotten Nite Klub. I remember learning it many years ago, an absolutely cracking line and great fun to play.

If you like The Forest, the tree mix from Mixed Up Album is sublime.

Although the album was released in 1979,
this track didn't hit the UK charts until 1980.
Does that count?
Narada Michael Walden (Killer Bass line and tricky to nail).
02:50, there is a breakdown of just Bass and Drums, and the Bass
really jumps out

That is bass

Yup, "I shoulda Loved Ya" was T.M. Stevens on bass.

Another cracker - this time with Randy Jackson (of American Idol panel fame) on bass.

Don Henley - New York Minute. Cheesy, cheesy as anything, massive guilty pleasure but one of the best fretless bass parts on record. Pino Palladino at his finest. I don't tell anyone that I listen to it though
