I'll vouch for that, my '86 has EMG's in and sounds amazing, although this is how it came, wasn't by choice.

I use my custom fretless quite a lot - is '88 classed as vintage?

I've been gigged by newer basses and I'm vintage

Not much to go wrong with a bass so I suppose if it's checked over regular new or old would have no advantage, I've also seen more digital amps fail and gigs more than valve ones
