My GSR200 has a different neck to the SR300's i've tried, so an actual SR might be different to the GSR, cheapest is the 300/305

Thanks I will look that one up

Send me an email to [email protected]. I have spec sheets on the Brubaker Brute Series 5 strings that might fit your budget.

Many of the basses mentioned here so far would be great. If I were to recommend the OLP, it would be the OLP 5 Tony Levin model, which actually looks better then the normal OLP and are a little easier to play. Not sure why, but they are.

Thanks
Yes have heard about them in a for sale thread. People were raving about the active version.

Few suggestions...

Modern

Peavey Millenium's - a lot of bass for the money. Lovely player.
Schecter Stilleto - very popular over the states with Gospel players, but again good features for the price.
Warwick Rockbass - great basses, but not everyone likes the way they play. Try one out to see how you get on.
Ibanez SR500 - I had one of these as a back up bass a long time ago. Very big tone and very easy to play.

Traditional

Fender Squire Jazz Deluxe V - say no more
Fender Squire Precision Deluxe V - probably not as flexible tone wise as the Jazz, but at the end of the day its a P bass with a B string!
Yamaha BB615 - bit of a marmite bass...I think they are a great budget bass personally. Very flexible bass for the money
Epiphone Thunderbird Pro 5 - you just look like a man that means business with this bass!

I think ibanez SR505-805 are incredible value for money at the moment... I picked up a 2003 New Old Stock MIJ SR765 for £285 posted a couple of years ago.... And I've seen plenty of similar basses around.. SR's are 34" and 16.5 mm spacing...

Here is the latest Brubaker Brute Series MJX-5 bass. It is black with a Kevin Brubaker Custom flamed pickguard.

These are great basses, at a great price, but I don't think there are any dealers in the UK yet....

If you can find a little bit more money there's the Ibanez K5, specifically mine which will be on the marketplace in a couple of weeks . . . .

Hi - Just spotted this. :)

I have this: http://flatericbassandguitar.blogspot.co.uk/2011/04/aria-sb-505-and-little-bit-of-jaydee.html

Played very little, had it from new - 5 string players say it's a cracker but I just can't get on with 5 strings!!
This is the only five string I have, out of a mountain of four strings and it is in your budget.

Whadaythink??

Cheers. :)

I wouldn't get too caught up with the scale length either, I also have small hands, I hardly even notice the difference, in fact, I tend to play the normal things I would on a 4 in the 5th position, so the spacing is effectively smaller than a 4. Works for me.
By the way, I got a Spector Legend 5 s/h and have to reiterate, these sound immense, for any money.

Thanks - will think about this carefully but concerned about 24 fret neck combined with 35" as I have short arms too . There is a peavey grind on eBay that didn't sell that's a 35" and many people on this thread seem to rate them

Yay my prose finally sold on eBay to a man from Devon - yes i told him about basschat

Un yay - not for as much as I would like and I got mugged by PayPal and eBay for fees
Also some things I was interested in have gone or are now beyond my reach

Yeah. That's exactly why I don't intend to put my Cort up on Ebay. It's just too unpredictable and potentially expensive. You end up almost giving stuff away and then paying for the privilege! :(
