davehux
Oops - should have put this in Repairs - sorry No - I am not after psychiatric help - far too gone for that Got a secondhand Squier VM fretless jazz last week. Decided to stick a Gotoh bridge on it to replace the bent tin, but when the strings came off, I found the nut was loose and could be removed from the slot. Simple question - what's the best thing to use to stick it back in again? I have the choice of hot-melt, superglue or epoxy in the house, or is there something else you think I should use? Thanks Edited March 16, 2012 by davehux
geoffbyrne
I'd tag it back in with a minute slick of Evo Stick, then you can always remove it again if needed. As you've discovered, the string tension holds it in quite well. G.
Al Heeley
as above or small dot of superglue, that bond is easily broken with a gentle sideways tap when its time to replace. Loose nuts are not uncommon on some basses and no cause for concern
davehux
Thanks Geoff I was just wondering if a loose nut has any effect on tone - and whether it needs a 'hard' bond to the neck (like epoxy) rather than a soft glue type one (or do I need to get out more)
muttley
Or PVA. But again only a tiny amount so that it can easily be removed if needed in the future. Don't use cyanoacrylate (super-glue) as it has a tendency to bloom.
rednose200
Take the opportunity to fit a brass nut if I were you. Small money too. The difference is really noticeable. Evo stick is fine.
