tommorichards Posted April 2, 2012 Author Posted April 2, 2012
Being a hoarder I make my own from the legs off old components which I can't bare to throw away once I've snipped the excess off. They come in handy for all sorts of solder jobs.
Thats what i was using as i was going along. unfortunately one jumper was too long, so i used a bit of tinned copper wire.
Thats the Electrolytic ones ain't it. I was double checking your pictures as I was ordering and googling images to make sure everything looked okay. Took most of yesterday
They are indeed. As i think i mentioned, i got all the components for the preamp from bitsbox except the pots. Where about did you order from? Quote
tommorichards Posted April 2, 2012 Author Posted April 2, 2012 They have an expensive delivery charge though. I think that was where i was going to get a 1m reverse audio pot. But then i realised i didnt really care how the sensitivity was near the top end of the pot, so linear taper it was. Quote
tauzero Posted April 4, 2012 Posted April 4, 2012 It's worth looking on That Ebay for components. I bought a big bag of ceramic capacitors for very little (just checked, 40 each of 50 values = 2000 caps for £11-30, free P&P). Quote
LukeFRC Posted April 4, 2012 Posted April 4, 2012
Hoiw cool would it be to fit 2 different circuit pre-amps in one bass then be able to toggle in between them?
would work if you have very colourful cuitcuits. if you had too reasonably neutral sounding circuits then parametric eq points might be more useful Quote
tommorichards Posted April 4, 2012 Author Posted April 4, 2012 (edited)
I'm officially a dick Ordered 1 Diode instead of 2 and 3 2.2m resistors instead of 4. Silly question time. On yours I see some of the caps are blue. the ones I got are the normal brown ones. does it matter?
Yes, i wanted more a more bluesy sound from this preamp, so i got blue ones. Brown ones will make it muddier..... But in all seriousness, i only got blue as bitsbox only had that value in tantalum bead style, otherwise i probably would have gone brown myself. I can also send you a diode and another 2.2m if ya lyk. I bought everything in multiples of 5, except the opamp and pots. Edited April 4, 2012 by tommorichards Quote
tommorichards Posted April 6, 2012 Author Posted April 6, 2012 same thing happened to me the first time i soldered it up, hence the title of the thread My problem was that i wired the volume and bass in the wrong places. Are you using a jack to turn the battery off and on? Quote
tommorichards Posted April 6, 2012 Author Posted April 6, 2012 No problem mate. My original problem was solved a while ago. Also, are you looking for more nuts like that? Ive never seen em before. Quote
tommorichards Posted April 7, 2012 Author Posted April 7, 2012 It just means that the pickups will blend in different directions That one would make a clockwise turn favour source A. Doesnt make any sound difference at all really. But if you turn it clockwise hoping to increase the volume of the bridge pickup, then you would be disappointed. Quote
tommorichards Posted April 8, 2012 Author Posted April 8, 2012 makes sense. Feel like posting some pictures? Quote
tommorichards Posted April 20, 2012 Author Posted April 20, 2012 I didnt notice much of a difference with the bright switch, then someone mentioned changing it from a 1.8nf to a 4.7nf. Seems brighter now.... Quote
LukeFRC Posted April 20, 2012 Posted April 20, 2012
Might give that a go Think l I have another cap in the spares box. Any ideas on the blend?
check you wired it properly? is it a double stacked one? Quote
